As people, we are taught from such a young age that endings and goodbyes are always tied to the feelings of sadness or sorrow. This is because endings often symbolize the conclusion of something important or good in our lives. Whether it be a friendship, a relationship, or something else entirely. And although this is true more times than not, I like to think that there is more to it than just sadness.
My favorite quote ever says, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” – Winnie the Pooh
In the beginning, this was the general idea I wanted to capture in my investigation. I just wasn’t quite sure how to express it in one specific category. At first I thought about doing drawings more directed towards people and their feelings but then I decided to do sunsets. To me sunsets symbolize that there can be beauty in things coming to an end. There is just something so elegant about that short time between the daylight hours and when the sun goes down. The sky transforms into a vibrant lightshow of pinks, oranges, purples and blues. Choosing to draw sunsets has allowed me to capture a beautiful moment right before it comes to an end.
